Superb views and a special brand of country hospitality ensure that this short break away is a unique experience. The vast array of birdlife, waterfalls and rugged escarpments attract visitors from all over the world to the Lamington National Park. A short walk with a Rainforest Guide, a four wheel drive morning tea adventure, spotlighting at night for nocturnal animals, a slide evening and lashings of food are all part of your visit to O’Reilly’s Guesthouse. Be equipped for the experience .. evenings in the mountains can be cool so pack a warm jacket and slacks. Sturdy walking shoes are a must. A torch for night walks will be handy, and of course, camera and binoculars help make the most of these special days.
Day 1: Wednesday 27th February. (LD)
Depart Centro, Hervey Bay at 5.15am and Maryborough Transit Centre at 6.00am bound for "O'Reilly's" (Ph 07 5502 4911) in the Lamington National Park. Ascend into the ranges in your comfortable coach to this refreshing Mountain Retreat. On arrival be taken to your room to freshen up before lunch. Timber features throughout the guesthouse and salvaged Jarrah and Murray River Redgum has been used on the walls, window frames and beautifully polished tables. From the picture window in the dining room watch birds, possums and sugar gliders at meal times.
At lunch an informal chat by the guesthouse staff lets you know what’s on the afternoon’s program. “Bithongabel” ensuite twin share or single accommodation (two nights), plus day and evening entertainment—four wheel drive bus tours to scenic lookouts, guided bush walks are organised, or self guided walks are available (the canopy tree walkway is exciting), and evening activities may include a stunning audiovisual in the theatrette. Feel on top of the world as you settle in for two memorable nights.
Day 2: Thursday 28th February. (BLD)
Before breakfast, hundreds of Crimson Rosellas, King Parrots and other opportunists are fed on the lawns outside the Restaurant. It's a unique experience to have one of these brilliantly coloured birds land on your wrist to eat from your hand—wear a hat for bird feeding particularly if you are short of hair! After a hearty country breakfast, venture out on a four wheel drive morning tea experience with one of the O'Reilly clan on a most revealing nature ramble. Read the daily program and with so much to do and enjoy, "go bush" forgetting about television, radios or papers. You’ll have a good appetite from the fresh mountain air, so sumptuous meals are provided. Evening activities occur ranging from spotlighting, viewing a stunning wildlife film, maybe a sing-a-long or take a partner to play table tennis!
Day 3: Friday 29th February. (BL)
Wake up to the serene sounds of bush creatures. Perhaps a Satin Bower Bird's bower will be a discovery. After breakfast you'll have time for a morning excursion or perhaps you'll prefer swaying along the canopy treetop walkway or strolling to the Botanic Gardens. At lunchtime picnic among colourful birdlife or forest friends before reluctantly saying goodbye to Bernard O'Reilly's Green Mountains in the Lamington Plateau. You are sure to feel totally refreshed as you board your coach and descend from this peaceful, natural setting World of Wonder known as O'Reilly's. Return to Maryborough approximately 7.30pm and Hervey Bay 8.00pm with wonderful memories of your O’Reilly’s Mountain Escape.
