DAY 1 BRISBANE—1770 D
Thursday 21st May 2009: Depart Brisbane Roma Street Transit Centre at 7:30am. Travel north on the Bruce Highway. After a lunch stop in the Heritage City of Maryborough continue our journey to the township of 1770, site of James Cook’s historic landing on 24th May 1770. Located along a magical, sun drenched stretch of sub-tropical surf coastline between Bundaberg and Gladstone, and nestled amongst five national parks, the dual township 1770/Agnes Water is also the closest access point to the Southern Great Barrier Reef. This unique setting is regarded as the eco-tourism jewel of Queensland and the sub-tropical coastline. DAY 2 FULL DAY LARC CRUISE BLD
Friday 22nd May 2009: You will love our full day tour on the fabulous LARC—a cross between a four wheel drive bus and a boat! Our journey takes us across tidal creeks, along Eurimbula National Park to historic Bustard Head Light Station for some of the most spectacular panoramic views in Australia. Experienced guides will amaze you with tales of tragedy and triumph as early settlers and lighthouse keepers struggled to tame this remote wilderness. This unique experience includes morning tea and lunch with billy tea. We may be lucky enough to see sea eagles, kangaroos, dolphins or turtles. Wonderful day, fantastic scenery—a great experience.
DAY 3 1770 COMMEMORATIVE FESTIVAL BD
Saturday 23rd May 2009: A free day today to enjoy the 1770 Commemorative Festival. The Festival day begins with a colourful street parade of highly decorated floats. The parade starts at 9am at the 1770 Marina and winds its way along the foreshores to the parklands near the 1770 Camping Grounds. Enjoy the market stalls, main stage entertainment and the re-enactment of Captain Cooks' landing on the 1770 foreshore, heralding the birthplace of Queensland. After a fun filled day relax and enjoy dinner at the Kahuna Restaurant.
DAY 4 LADY MUSGRAVE ISLAND BLD
Sunday 24th May 2009: Cruise to the Great Barrier Reef's Lady Musgrave Island aboard the high speed 22metre catamaran, the "Spirit of 1770". Lady Musgrave Island & Lagoon is a true coral cay with an unspoiled island and unique coral lagoon on the Outer Great Barrier Reef. Lady Musgrave National Park is a tropical paradise abundant in pisonia forests and bird life. The island is set on 3000 acres of living reef with a deep water coral lagoon which is unique to the entire Great Barrier Reef Region. The Spirit of 1770 enters the calm waters of the coral lagoon to moor only 300 metres from the island. This provides a protected haven for all age groups to explore the wonders of a living reef eco-system and the colourful variety of marine life - all in one great day! A very unique way to spend your day. Includes snorkelling, underwater observatory, glass bottom boat, morning/afternoon tea, island walks and semi-submersible.
DAY 5 1770—BRISBANE B
Monday 25th May 2009: After a final leisurely breakfast we farewell our hosts and head for Bundaberg. To add a little more interest to your trip enjoy a tour of the Bundaberg Rum Distillery. You will be shown the process of Bundaberg Rum being made and you can tantalise your taste buds with a taste test of the famous Aussie spirit. Visit Sugarland shopping centre to purchase your own lunch before embarking on the final leg of our journey to arrive in Brisbane late afternoon with drop-offs enroute.
