8 Day NSW Silo Art Trail

TRAVEL ITINERARY


DAY 1 - HOME to TOOWOOMBA    (D)

Monday 9th March 2026:  Join us for a unique holiday appreciating Silo Art. After pickups, we head to Toowoomba to explore the new silo by artist Kim Walmsley, filled with vibrant patterns and storytelling. We then visit the Cobb & Co Museum, showcasing the history of horse-drawn transport, from timber wagons to the elegant Victoria carriage used by the Duke of Edinburgh in 1876.

DAY 2 - TOOWOOMBA to NARRABRI     (BLD)

Tuesday 10th March:  We head to Millmerran to see the pioneering Millmerran Water Tank Art, inspired by the early settlers who drew water from the nearby creek in 1881. After lunch at O'Shea's Royal Hotel in Goondiwindi, we continue to Narrabri for the evening. Dinner is at the Outback Shack Bar and Grill, a place filled with local historical memorabilia and a mural of Narrabri’s main street from the past.

DAY 3 - NARRABRI to DUBBO     (BLD)

Wednesday 11th March:  After breakfast in Narrabri we travel to Barraba to view the silo mural by Fintan Magee, depicting a local water diviner searching for groundwater. Continuing to Gunnedah, we visit the Water Tower Museum where murals show 7RAR soldiers—one side waiting for Huey helicopters, the other paying respects at the Long Tan Cross. Nearby, the Gunnedah Art Silo displays extracts from Dorothea Mackellar’s poem My Country. We stop for lunch at the Gunnedah Services & Bowling Club before continuing to Gulargambone. Here, the water tower features a kingfisher diving for fish, with additional murals around town. We end the day in Dubbo.

DAY 4 - DUBBO to YOUNG    (BLD)

Thursday 12th March:  Today, we visit Condobolin to see the unique 'Utes in the Paddock' art—get your cameras ready! After lunch at Road Kill Grillz in Weethalle, we check out the Weethalle Silo painted by Melbourne artist Heesco Khosnaran. Next, we head to Murrumburrah to admire the stunning artwork on the former Flour Mill, depicting the region’s prosperous history. We’ll spend the night in Young, just nearby.

DAY 5 - YOUNG to MUDGEE     (BLD)

Friday 13th March:  After breakfast, we head to Grenfell to explore murals reflecting the community's pride and resilience. In Cowra, we visit the Information Centre for the SpectraVision story on the POW breakout. In Bathurst, we tour Abercrombie House, a grand 1870s mansion with beautiful gardens. After lunch, we visit Portland's 'The Foundations' silos, painted by Guido van Helten, depicting former cement workers. Finally, we arrive in Mudgee to check in and relax before dinner.

DAY 6 - MUDGEE to TAMWORTH     (BLD)

Saturday 14th March:  After a relaxing night, we continue our silo art tour, starting in Dunedoo with the Winx Silo, honouring the champion racehorse and her rider Hugh Bowman. Next, we visit the Merriwa Art Silos, featuring sheep in red socks in a canola field. We stop for lunch at the Scone RSL Club before heading to Quirindi to see the silo art depicting the Liverpool Plains’ past, present, and future. Finally, we arrive in Tamworth to relax before dinner.

DAY 7 - TAMWORTH to WARWICK     (BLD)

Sunday 15th March:  After breakfast, we head to Armidale to visit Saumarez Homestead for a guided tour of its elegant Edwardian furnishings. Lunch is at Six Countries Restaurant before we continue to Glen Innes to see the Standing Stones. We then travel north, stopping in Tenterfield, Stanthorpe, and Warwick for our overnight stay.

DAY 8 - WARWICK to HOME     (B)

Monday 16th March:  With bags full of memories and a new appreciation for silo art, we head home, stopping for breaks and lunch along the way. We’ll arrive later today after 8 fantastic days on the road with friends.
