9 Day Anzac Day Commemoration in Canberra

The Australian War Memorial is always proud to host one of Australia’s most important national occasions—the
Anzac Day commemorations. From the observance of the one-minute silence at the Dawn Service to the sounding of the Last Post, the Australian War Memorial can't be beat for anyone wishing to immerse themselves in a full and moving Anzac Day commemoration.

TRAVEL ITINERARY
DAY 1 - HOME to YAMBA (D)
Tuesday 21st April 2026: Welcome to our 9 day Canberra tour. After lunch (own expense), we visit Mullumbimby’s Crystal Castle with gardens, views, statues, crystals and jewellery. The day concludes in Yamba with overnight accommodation at a tranquil rainforest retreat.

DAY 2 - YAMBA to MAITLAND (BLD)
Wednesday 22nd April: This morning we salute the King of Country at the Slim Dusty Centre, Kempsey (opened 2015). After lunch and a tour, we’ll hear how David Gordon Kirkpatrick became Slim Dusty at 11. Arriving at the Old Maitland Inn we’ll be warmly welcomed and ready for dinner.

DAY 3 - MAITLAND to CANBERRA (BLD)
Thursday 23rd April: Relax this morning as we skirt around Sydney en-route to Berrima for lunch at the Surveyor General Inn. In the afternoon we continue to Canberra, settling in for 4 nights.

DAY 4 - DISCOVING CANBERRA (BD)
Friday 24th April: After breakfast we tour the National Museum of Australia, exploring stories of the nation through ideas, interactive displays and key objects. Free time follows to browse or purchase lunch. This afternoon we visit the Australian War Memorial, including the Hall of Memory, Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, Pool of Reflection and Roll of Honour with 102,000 names. The day concludes with the Last Post and Closing Ceremony.

DAY 5 - ANZAC DAY (BLD)
Saturday 25th April: Today marks the 109th anniversary of the Gallipoli landing, the first major action of Australian and New Zealand forces in WWI. We will remember them. Early morning we attend the Dawn Service at the Australian War Memorial, then return for breakfast before the National Ceremony and veterans’ march along Anzac Parade. We may also visit memorials to pay our respects. Lunch is arranged at the George Harcourt Inn. The afternoon is free after the early start.

DAY 6 - GALLERY & HISTORICAL HOMESTEAD (BLD)
Sunday 26th April: We begin at the National Portrait Gallery, exploring stories of exploration and achievement. Lunch follows at Lanyon Homestead, surrounded by gardens, heritage outbuildings and natural beauty, with a meal in the historic Lanyon Café. In contrast, we then visit the Canberra Deep Space Communication Complex at Tidbinbilla, which for 40 years has supported space exploration. Discover the work of Australians contributing to missions uncovering the Universe’s secrets. The day ends back at our hotel with time to refresh before dinner.

DAY 7 - CANBERRA to NEWCASTLE (BLD)
Monday 27th April: After our time in Canberra, we drive to Mount Ainslie Lookout for sweeping views. Returning to ground level, we tour Embassy Row with its striking architecture, then continue to Capital Hill for a guided visit of Parliament House. Heading north, we pause for breaks and lunch at Mittagong RSL. Our afternoon journey bypasses Sydney, arriving in Newcastle for the night.

DAY 8 - NEWCASTLE to BALLINA (BLD)
Tuesday 28th April: This morning we travel north to Port Macquarie for lunch at Ricardoes Tomatoes & Strawberries, home to five strawberry and eight tomato varieties. Continuing via Coffs Harbour and Grafton, we reach Ballina late afternoon, check into our accommodation, and refresh before dinner.

DAY 8 - BALLINA to HOME (B)
Wednesday 29th April: With bags full of memories, we journey home, pausing for breaks and lunch. We arrive later today, reflecting on the special ANZAC service we experienced.
