TRAVEL ITINERARY


DAY 1 - HOME to ROCKHAMPTON    (D)

Monday 18th May 2026:  Welcome aboard for our 8 day holiday. Today we travel to Rockhampton, enjoying a comfortable ride and meeting fellow travellers. With stops en -route, including lunch, we arrive late afternoon to freshen up before dinner.

DAY 2 - GREAT KEPPELL ISLAND     (BLD)

Tuesday 19th May:  Hats and sunscreen packed, we travel to Roslyn Bay to board our vessel for Great Keppel Island. Morning tea is served en-route before a glass-bottom boat cruise, revealing marine wonders above and below the water with expert commentary. Back on the island, enjoy village exploration and lunch on the water. We then return to the mainland and our hotel after a day of natural beauty.

DAY 3 - HERITAGE, CAVES & THEATRE     (BLD)

Wednesday 20th May:  Today we explore both past and present. At the award-winning Heritage Village, ride the tram, enjoy morning tea, and wander around the original buildings for insight into pioneer life. Next, venture into the Capricorn Caves with a guided tour of Cathedral Cave, discovering geological history and remarkable acoustics, before lunch onsite. Returning to our hotel for a short break, we then head to the Footlights Theatre Restaurant. After pre-dinner drinks (own expense), sit back for a night of dining and comedy entertainment, filled with fun and laughter.

DAY 4 - GARDENS, CROCODILES & SINGING SHIPS    (BLD)

Thursday 21st May:  We begin at the Rockhampton Botanic Gardens, wandering beneath giant figs before enjoying morning tea. Next is Koorana Crocodile Farm, where after lunch we learn about these prehistoric creatures and watch them feed. The day continues at Emu Park, where the sea breeze often brings the ship-shaped sculpture to life with its haunting song.

DAY 5 - ROCKHAMPTON TO 1770    (BPLD)

Friday 22nd May:  We begin at Archer Park Rail Museum, showcasing railway history with classic trains and the restored Purrey Steam Tram, once operating in Rockhampton between 1909–1939. After morning tea, we travel to the twin towns of Agnes Water and Seventeen Seventy, site of James Cook’s second Australian landing. A sightseeing drive reveals highlights including the Captain Cook Monument and the 1770 headland, offering stunning views over Bustard Bay, before we arrive at our resort.

DAY 6 - 1770 LARC     (BPLD)

Saturday 23rd May:  Today’s adventure takes us across Bustard Bay aboard the LARC!, travelling tidal creeks to Middle Island for morning tea. Crossing Jenny Lind Creek, we begin a 4WD ascent to Bustard Head Lightstation – Queensland’s first coastal lighthouse. From its 16-metre tower, enjoy panoramic coastline views while hearing stories of settlers and light-keepers who braved this remote wilderness. Returning to the LARC!, we descend the headland, cross Jenny Lind Creek again, and pause for a picnic lunch before heading back to our resort to freshen up for dinner.

DAY 7 - 1770 to BUNDABERG     (BLD)

Sunday 24th May:  This morning in Bundaberg, a local guide introduces us to ‘Bundy’, including the striking Whaling Wall marine mural. We then enjoy lunch at Grunske's By The River before visiting Mon Repos Turtle Centre. At the Bundaberg Botanic Gardens, we explore the Hinkler Hall of Aviation, where interactive displays and glide simulators bring to life the adventures of pioneer aviator Bert Hinkler. Inspired by his achievements, we end the day and settle in for the night.

DAY 8 - BUNDABERG to HOME     (B)

Monday 25th May:  At the Bundaberg Barrel, discover the history of craft-brewed drinks spanning generations. Sample refreshing flavours at the Tasting Bar—perhaps a new favourite or a classic. After a gentle stroll through the grounds, we head home with fond memories of eight days shared with friends.
